Dear Music lover,

Back in 2003 while serving in Iraq as a Marine scout-sniper, I sustained a serious brain injury that incapacitated me both physically and mentally…

And if that wasn’t enough, spiraled me into a deep emotional tunnel of sadness and depression.

Back during that time proper healthcare for my particular injury and needs was not readily available, leaving me with an overwhelming sense of fear and hopelessness.

In fact, for all intents and purposes, I was a guy who had very little hope, and even less prospects for a normal life, never mind a future with any brightness in it.

I’ve often searched for the right words that can best describe my feelings, and outlook on life at that difficult time in my life.

But you know… the closest I can come to expressing my feelings and thinking at that time is found in the words of an old Elton John song he penned with his writing partner, Bernie Taupin entitled: “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”

There’s one particular verse that can in a moment of deep personal reflection, still put a lump in my throat.

It pretty much describes the bleakness surrounding my outlook on life at that time. It goes like this:

Don’t let the sun go down on me
Although I search myself, it’s always someone else I see
I’d just allow a fragment of your life to wander free
But losing everything is like the sun going down on me

Fortunately, I stand before you today as someone who is healthy, happy and full of a zest for life, all because:

I didn’t let, and in fact I refused to let the sun go down on me!

How about you?

I sure hope you have not let the sun go down on your dream of being a successful musician or singer?

Just like in the song… I did search myself and instead, I made the decision to not see someone else like the character in Elton John’s classic ballad tells us…

But instead, I chose to see the person I was meant to be…. the guy I was born to be.

And who is that?

  • A lover of music
  • A musician
  • A music teacher
  • A lover of life
  • A passionate and caring music advocate

You know, deep down inside, all of us know who we are, and what makes us tick.

I was no different.

I knew from a young age I loved and had an ear for music. So, although I was suffering from a serious head injury…

I did what I had at other times in life when needing comfort… I picked up my guitar.

Although I had been robbed of my memory, I refused to quit or give up.

I loved music and I was also in love with playing my guitar and there was no way I was going to stop trying.

Long story short – I had to relearn how to play music…so I did.

I plugged away hour after hour and soon discovered that the more I strummed and played… the more my playing not only improved, but my fine motor skills did as well.

Anyone who plays the guitar knows full well, that if you can’t control the agility and the coordination of your fingers and hands, you cannot master the playing of a guitar.

My guitar became my primary therapy tool… and an effective one at that.

With undying determination, I retaught myself the guitar, and in the process, regained proper hand and mind flow coordination… along with my musical abilities.

Since those dark days of 2003, I not only fully recovered and became a nationally certified music teacher but…

CONT from page 1…

I also opened the doors in 2012 to Sage Music in Queens, New York and went on and developed a revolutionary musical training lesson system I call, ARPEGGIO ™.

ARPEGGIO™ is helping scores of music lovers of all ages, skills and backgrounds achieve their personal goals, and fulfill their musical dreams.

By the way… the ARPEGGIO ™ training lesson system is truly ground-breaking as well as liberating.

Because at Sage Music, we teach you music that combines music lessons with psychology, a holistic approach to health and well-being, and community and creativity.

It is the only music teaching of its kind, anywhere in the U.S.

You know, I decided to go into teaching music after immersing myself into the study of how the brain learns, coupled with the impact science and psychology brings to the workings of the human mind.

All this came about due to the fact I became faced with the sobering reality that if was ever going to recover…

I would have to take the bull by the horns – and take care of my own recovery after sustaining my brain injury while serving in Iraq.

What is so amazing is… it was through my own self-healing and period of recovery that I discovered how to help others through music…

Which included and combined my new-found knowledge of how the learning process in the human brain works.

This personal revelation changed the course of my life.

I made a personal life-altering decision to turn my traumatic injury into something positive, by helping others reach their musical potential…

And by doing so, see my students at Sage Music experience the joy that comes to them when their life-long dreams come true.

But don’t take my word for it.

Look at what a couple of our students recently told us:

My experience with Sage Music has been amazing. Jason and his team provides service that is above and beyond. They are willing to adapt and listen to your needs. They are passionate with what they do and it truly shows.

My 5-year old daughter took piano lessons for over 6 months. I have to give all the credit to Sage Music for building the confidence in her as she now plays independently without much help.

I’m impressed with the technique taught by Sage despite the little fingers she has… The key strokes are very precise. Thank you Avelyn H.

I’ve learned more about the elements of music and discipline in the last few weeks than I have in years of guitar playing. For the first time in 4 years, I feel like I am progressing! Mike S.
I think that [Sage Music School is] grounded in music and has people that are excellent and really care about teaching. They are not just there for themselves, but they really care about community and their students. Michelle A.
