What is Sage Music Match?

Sage Music Match is a simple matching system for music students who want to be more involved in our community and get to know other Sage Students.

Just let us know that you want to meet some new people and we’ll make the introduction so that you can chat with each other online.

What can you do with your music match?

That’s up to you! But some ideas include

  • Practice together
  • Perform for each other,
  • Chat about music
  • Start a band
  • And take advantage of all the offerings at Sage Music.

What are the benefits of getting a music match?

  • Meet someone new who shares similar insterest to you
  • Get more chances to hone your performing skills
  • Grow with valuable advice from your peers

How do we choose your match?

  • We’ll pair you with another Sage Music student who is in your age range.
  • We’ll never pair adults with children.
  • The pairing system is done randomly by age group.
  • If you’ve got a special request, let us know.

What happens after I get matched?

1. We’ll send you an introductory email to get the conversation going.

To break the ice, try writing an email with who you are, what you are working on in your music lessons, your experience, and what you’d like to do in your music match time, and generally what times would work for you to meet online.

If you are a parent, you’ll be getting the email on your child’s behalf.

2. It’s totally up to you to decide what to do. We are just helping you meet new people from our community online.

But here here are some options to get you going.

    • Be penpals. Email each other about your music and your lessons, or anything at all.
    • Perform for each other online.
    • Give each other practice advice.
    • Write music together.
    • Become friends on social media.

How do we meet online?

After you choose some times, you’ll want to choose how to meet.  We recommend trying

  • Google Hangouts – Works on most device and most web browsers.
  • Zoom – They’ve got a free plan that works well for video chat.
  • Skype – Like Zoom, they’ve got a free plan where you don’t have to share any additional contact information.

While you might give FaceTime or WhatsApp a try, we don’t immediately reccomend those platforms because you have to share your phone number. You are certainly welcome to use them, but we just want to make sure you are comfortable with the contact info that you are sharing.

Sage Music Match Guidelines

  • If you sign up, do follow through and meet with your match.
  • If you no longer wish to meet, you can decline to meet further at anytime. There is no obligation to be involved.
  • Everyone in the program is a Sage Music student. Be respectful.
  • Don’t do anything inappropriate.

How do I get started?

If you are a current student, just call 833-537-0680. We’ll walk you through the steps and get you set up right away.

What if I don't hear back from my match?

If your match doesn’t respond, don’t worry. Sometimes people get busy, or get cold feet, or decide they don’t want to be matched any longer. If that’s the case, don’t be pushy, just get in contact with us and let us know what happened. We wil find you someone else who is more eager to be involved, because we are enrolling new students all of the time.

Is it safe?

Yes, it is safe as long as you are safe.

We will never share any contact information beyond your email address with your Music Match partner. And you shouldn’t either.

We recommend that you keep all meetings online. If you do choose to meet offline, consider an open public space, or rent one of our practice rooms where our staff are around, and the security cameras are rolling.

If someone does something that is inappropriate. Let us know and we’ll investigate and address the issue. If we find any inappropriate behavior, we reserve the right to remove that person from the match program.

I'm not a Sage Music student, can I join?

At this time, no. We are protective of our community and will only make introductions to other students if we’ve met you and know who you are. We take our responsibility to our students and community seriously.
